Shift Patterns

When our ‘little darlings’ start the new school year, the workplace annual tussle for revised working hours begins.

Some jobs automatically come with shift patterns - to ensure that the employer gets utmost output from their buildings and equipment. But why do some employers insist on contracting staff to work on rotational shifts, rather than on set patterns? Wouldn’t it be easier for a security or bus company to hire separate teams of early, middle, late and night staff – rather than combining all the shifts with a complex calculation of days off? And isn't it time we did away with 12 hour shifts?

If you are a manager responsible for staff rotas, Serious About Solutions would love to hear your views about shift patterns. How do rotational shifts benefit the organisation?

Let’s have your contributions.
